We recently received an arcade cabinet from Arcade1Up featuring a few Marvel games created by Capcom. We decided to look at it again. The original review was made at the time of Christmas 2019. We only had some time to play with the cabinet just before the Christmas season began and we were flooded with the number of products we had to look over. We decided to take it slow and dive into the cabinet more this time. It was a good idea, right? It’s Marvel and Capcom in an arcade case. Let’s play with it even as we wish we were at arcades right now. The main title for this model is Marvel Super Heroes Arcade Cabinet which is designed to look like the original model as it can. The lower part of the cabinet is a display of every game apart from obvious branding by the company. It’s four feet tall and includes an LCD monitor and a basic sound system similar to all cabinets made by the company. The only difference between the original and this version is the fact that the controls don’t lie at an angle. They’re flat. The speakers remain in their original position, they can be moved to the marquee, and then placed beneath the monitor. The unit was sent to us as an entire piece. It took us around 30 minutes to build. We also received instruction and a riser of 1 foot to raise it to five feet so we wouldn’t have to stand over it while playing. The arcade games available in the cabinet comprise X-Men Children Of The Atom (1994), Marvel Super Heroes (1995) and The Punisher (1993). They are designed for 1-2 players. This is significant as several Marvel non-fighting titles had either a single-player or a four-player cabinet. Marvel Super Heroes is among the biggest fighting games from the 90s prior to the time that Capcom began to mix their peanut butter and Marvel’s chocolate. You had the chance to play as various characters of the Marvel universe for the first time in a battle game. It’s a little mix of characters trying to prevent Thanos from acquiring the Infinity Stones, like you always do, and each character having their own ending story. The game didn’t fare well in arcades when it launched however, it has now gained an cult following of people who are obsessed with collecting the original cabinets. We thought that overall, that the Marvel Super Heroes Arcade Cabinet was pretty cool. It includes three titles which, while identical, each has their own unique style and features many properties along the way. This cabinet comes with three. We also recognize that the storage capacity of these three games is not very large. We’ve even seen hackers hack into these cabinets and load libraries of all kinds to them. This means that either something was cut or didn’t get accepted in time.
